Stare Powązki app for iPhone and iPad

The "Old Powazki" application facilitates finding graves, moving around the cemetery, themed walks, learning about the biographies of the buried, as well as education about the history of this Warsaw necropolis. The tool was created using data from the inventory of Old Powazki, made by the Office of the Capital Conservator of Monuments.

The currently existing system of naming the quarters has been growing over time for over 150 years and today has a historic value. We are dealing here with an intangible monument, because this system is a valuable document of the historical development of this necropolis. The historical numbering of the plots makes it difficult to find individual graves. Thanks to the application, you can also conduct educational projects for young people in history and art history at Powązki Cemetery. The application contains thematic trails leading visitors to the necropolis in the footsteps of people resting at Stare Powązki. It contains the history of the necropolis and a short description of sepulchral art, along with its symbolism from the 18th to the 21st century. It is an innovative solution that helps to disseminate knowledge about the cemetery, but also through the prism of people buried in Stare Powązki, about the history of not only the capital, but also the entire country.

SIGHTSEEING AND EDUCATION
The application encourages Varsovians and tourists to get acquainted with the richness of the necropolis collections. The possibility of using the application for educational purposes was also created with adults in mind. Thanks to it, they will be able to learn the history of many well-known and distinguished Poles buried there and contribute to the promotion of the protection of cultural monuments in Poland. An equally important goal is to popularize among institutions and individual donors the idea of ​​saving the national heritage of Stare Powązki.

THE STARE POWĄZKI FOUNDATION
The Archdiocese of Warsaw, which is the guardian of the cemetery, decided to establish the Stare Powązki Foundation, whose mission is to preserve the heritage and historical character of this final resting place for many generations of Poles. In addition to activities in the field of protection, conservation and restoration of works of art, the Foundations goal is to promote Stare Powązki as a great cultural heritage and national asset. Through numerous educational programs on art and history, the Foundation wants to make the public aware of the importance of cultural heritage as an important determinant of national identity.
